Left to fend for herself in an unforgiving world, Kyoma found herself caught in the clutches of poverty. To survive, she resorted to theft, labor, and alliances with questionable individuals. Her earthbending abilities became essential tools for quick escapes and successful thefts within the destitute markets of the Lower Ring. However, fate had a different path in store for her, one that would forever change her life.
During a fateful day, a massive earthquake shook Ba Sing Se, unleashing destruction upon the city. Trapped in the Lower Ring, Kyoma was unable to seek aid, and the tremors of the disaster ultimately led to her losing her left arm. Cut off from assistance, she endured immense pain and struggled to survive amidst the ruins for weeks on end. It was during this harrowing experience that Kyoma witnessed firsthand the stark injustices plaguing Ba Sing Se.
Moved by the stark disparities between the privileged and the downtrodden, Kyoma resolved to join the Earth Kingdom military.
